Utsukushigahara Onsen is a well-known hot spring gushing out in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, which was designated as a People’s Recreation Spa. Effects and characteristics of Hot Springs

Utsukushigahara Onsen has a long history, and it is described in Nihon Shoki, the chronicles of Japan edited in Nara Period. In Heian Period, Minamoto no Shigeyuki, a poet, composed a poem about this hot spring, then in Edo Period, it was the health resort of the feudal lord of Matsumoto. For these reasons, it was also called “Goten no Yu (hot spring of the palace)”.
